“Mondays in the Sun” is a Spanish film, which talks about the story of those who live their lives within a constant sunny Sunday!
After seeing the VAT increase approved by our Government, I wonder if we all will end up like the characters in “Mondays in the Sun”.
The Spanish Consejo de Ministros (Council of Ministers) has approved recently several increases on Spanish VAT, which will come into effect on 1st September 2012.
General VAT will be increased from 18 % to 21 %.
The 18 % is the general VAT rate, so this will increase the costs of many services, including legal services.
Other services, such as hairdressers or funeral services, for instance, have a reduced VAT rate (8%) and will be also increased from the 8 to 21 %.
The VAT applicable to the purchase of new properties remains at 4% but it is expected that this will also increase next year.
